Sacred Ziyarat Sites: Journey Through the Historic Landmarks of Islam

Jabal E Uhud

Jabal E Uhud, often referred to as Mount Uhud, is a significant site for pilgrims visiting Saudi Arabia. It holds historical importance as the location of the Battle of Uhud, where the revered Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) faced the Quraysh polytheists. Although the Quraysh declared victory in this encounter, their success was emblematic at best, as the Prophet (pbuh) survived the battle.

The mountain is also believed to be the final resting place for many of the Prophet’s (pbuh) companions. Standing as the tallest mountain in Madinah, Jabal E Uhud is situated about 6.4 kilometers north of the city, offering a breathtaking view that captivates all who visit.

Masjid E Qiblatain

Masjid E Qiblatain, also known as the Mosque of the Two Qiblas, holds deep historical importance in Islam. This sacred site is where the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) received the revelation to shift the qibla (direction of prayer) from Jerusalem to the holy Kaaba in Makkah. It is greatly cherished by Muslims, as it marks the location of the very first congregational prayer offered while facing the Kaaba.

In the past, Masjid al-Qiblatain uniquely featured two Mihrabs, which is how it acquired its name. Following the revelation to redirect prayer towards the Kaaba, the Mihrab that faced Jerusalem was removed. Today, it stands as a significant Ziyarat destination for pilgrims traveling from across the globe.

Masjid E Quba

Masjid E Quba, often referred to as Quba Mosque, is a site of profound significance for many. According to tradition, the esteemed Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) established this mosque after relocating from Makkah to Madinah, making it the first mosque constructed in Islam. Beyond its vital role as a place of worship, the mosque also functions as a community center, a madrassa, and an administrative hub.

Situated just a 15-minute drive from Masjid Nabawi, Masjid E Quba occupies a distinguished place in the Islamic faith. In addition to its spiritual importance, the mosque beautifully showcases the unparalleled elegance of traditional Islamic architecture.

Seven Mosques

A notable site for Ziyarat, this complex comprises seven mosques that attract pilgrims annually during Hajj and Umrah. These mosques hold great significance in Islamic history, being connected to the Battle of the Trench, and are situated to the west of Sala’ Mountain. Historical accounts tell us that Muslims utilized these mosques to dig trenches, defending Madinah from the Quraysh forces.

The mosques in this complex include Masjid Salman Al-Farsi, Masjid Al-Fath, Masjid Ali bin Abu Talib, Masjid Umar bin Khattab, Masjid Sa’ad bin Mu’adh, Masjid Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq, and Masjid Fatimah Az-Zahra. Additionally, Masjid Qiblatain is considered part of this seven mosque ensemble, although it is located about 1 kilometer away. Pilgrims often include it in their visits alongside the other mosques.

Cave of Hira

The Cave of Hira holds great significance in Islamic history, perched on Jabal al-Nour Mountain. Here, the revered Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) received the first revelation of the holy Quran. The cave measures about 12 feet in length and 5.5 feet in width, located approximately 3.2 kilometers from the sacred city of Makkah.

In this serene cave, the Prophet (pbuh) often engaged in deep meditation, sometimes for several days at a time. He made sure to bring enough provisions, ensuring nothing would disturb his reflective moments. Including this sacred site in your Ziyarat will truly enhance the blessings of your pilgrimage.

Jannat-Ul-Mu'Alla

Maqbara Maula, often referred to as the Cemetery of Ma’la, is also known by various names like Jannat al-Mu’alla and Al-Ḥajūn. Situated just 1 kilometre from the Masjid Al Haram, this sacred site is the resting place of many distinguished figures in Islamic history. Among them is the first wife of the revered Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), alongside numerous family members and devoted companions of the Prophet.

Considered a highly esteemed location for Ziyarat, this historically significant graveyard draws countless visitors each year who come to pay their respects to the family and companions of the blessed Prophet (pbuh) who are interred here.

Cave of Sour

Also known as Ghar Thawr or the Cave of Thawr, the Cave of Sour is a site of great importance in Islam. It is here that Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) took refuge for three days, alongside his loyal companion, Hazrat Abu Bakr, to evade the Quraysh’s search parties. The cave itself is approximately 3.1 feet wide and features two entrances, each located on opposite sides—one to the east and one to the west.

According to Islamic history, to safeguard the Prophet (pbuh) and his companion, Allah commanded a spider to spin an intricate web right at the cave’s entrance. This perfectly crafted web served as a barrier, leading the search parties to believe that no one could have entered without disturbing it, thus keeping them away from the cave.

Jabal E Rehmat

Jabal-e Rehmat, also known as Jabal-Ar Rahmah or the Mercy Mount, is situated in Arafat and holds profound significance in Islamic history. This is the site where ‘Syedna Aadam’ and ‘Syeda Hawwa’ are believed to have descended from heaven, marked by a distinct white pillar that indicates their landing spot.

Additionally, Jabal-e Rehmat is where the revered Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) delivered his final sermon upon the conclusion of the sacred Hajj. It is essential to reach this location during the pilgrimage; failing to do so renders the Hajj invalid. Therefore, this site is highly venerated for performing Ziyarat as part of your pilgrimage journey.
